Arthur Logan Miller, PhD (1910) was one of the first two students to graduate from Springhill High School. He earned an A.B. Degree from Hendrix College in 1915, A. M. Degree at Boston University, Ed.M at Harvard University and A.M. Clinical Psychology and PhD from Harvard. After graduation from Hendrix College, Arthur taught high school in Blytheville, AR. He spent approximately four years serving as a minister in many small towns in Arkansas. Then, he moved to Boston, MA to further his education. He worked as a Vocational related counselor at the YMCA in Boston. Later, he taught at Huntington High School for boys and served as psychologist and advisor to the faculty. In 1929, Arthur founded the “Miller Personnel,” an organization to provide psychologically to business and industry. This became a significant pioneering venture in applied psychology. During the ‘30’s and ‘40’s, Arthur was very creative in adjusting the new technology of projecting testing to the task of evaluating the strengths, weaknesses, growth needs and potential of “normal” executives, managers and professionals in business and industry. He, also, developed counseling techniques for helping individuals in their job performances. During WWII, Arthur was “on the road” three weeks out of every four to help rapidly promoted executives of high-technology industries cope with their responsibilities. By the early ‘50’s, he had established a client base that included such well-know companies as General Electric, Standard Oil Company and Sylvania and a number of small companies. He is the product of the fine families who were pioneers in developing Springhill High School. His father was the first principal of Springhill High School in 1895. |
